This may be too forward, but are you comfortable in disclosing what the cost is for alterations on a shirt, pants, a suit jacket?
I've always been afraid that it would be too costly.
Also, is there a good way to find a tailor outside of mens wearhouse and laudrymats?
So sorry for the delay. No, not to forward at all.
I just saw this this morning, and it reminded me that I hadn’t replied to you.
I have a seamstress that does my shirts. That was all trial and error. I tested out a few before I settled in. I also learned quickly what she could and couldn’t do. She also does my pants (tapering, cuffs, and waist).
For the Tailor that does my suits, I found through asking people. The guys at the Ralph Lauren store here in ATL, always had extremely well fitting suits, so I asked them for recommendations. I also just searched online for tailors in my area. Again, this took some trial and error.
I also have notes for the exact measurements of my best fitting items. This creates some consistency in fit, and both my seamstress and tailor know how I like things to fit.
Key thing to remember:
“…most tailors are trades people not stylists….” mostexerent.tumblr.com – GW
