Slimmed up 501′s (rigid)

I’m not very wity when it comes to naming my posts…oh well, I’ll work on that.

I don’t like how the 501′s fit straight off the rack as I find the fit to be too full. My issue with the slimmer versions are that they end up being too tight in seat and through the thighs.  I really want a pair of selvedge, but I have yet to find a pair that fits without needing alteration. The way the seam is on them, makes it difficult to alter. Anyone have any ideas?

I got these slimmed up from about 2″ about my knee down to the bottom. I also had them hemmed. In the picture, it looks like it puckers out above my knee, but that was because I had been sitting all day, so material had bunched up. It generally doesn’t do that.

  1. yea i definitely feel you on the standard 501 fit. way too full in my opinion. i got the shrink to fits last year and altered them myself. got the job done although it was a little slim in the thigh, plus i saved that almighty cash.

  2. Actually, I forgot, these are the 501, shrink to fits. I got them when they were on sale at Levis.com. I need to find a pair with a lower rise. I like the APC’s, but I’m not digging the price tag.

I have them is that greenish color too, I got those done at Sid Mashburn, I tried to match them.

  3. Have you ever tried the naked & famous weird guy? It seems like you might like the cut.

  4. No, I haven’t, but I’ll take a look at those. I just bought a pair of the Ralph Lauren Rugby Selvedge Vintage Slim Jean, so it will be a while before I purchase another pair. I need to break them in!

  5. Did you have these altered before or after the “Shrink-to-Fit” washing?

  6. No, I thought about it, but I think I’ll do a soak in the ocean next summer. I like to break them in and get some fading before I wash them.

  7. “Just because its your size doesnt mean it fits” isnt that the truth. Im very excited to have found your blog I live for menswear its such an amazing area of design.
